Joe Hobbs grew up in the Bahamas, Key West, Cuba, and California due to his upbringing in a Navy family, and his experiences in these coastal communities heavily informed his artwork. He attended the Rhode Island School of Design and the California College of the arts before earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of West Florida in 2010. Joe Hobbs’ exhibition examines how time and place shape an individual and, in turn, the imprint one leaves behind. Both the permanence and impermanence of everyday life is exposed through a mixed media approach consisting of hand-blown and hot-sculpted glass, found objects, wood, and paint.
