A local favorite for many, Jaco’s Bayfront Bar & Grille offers great food, a relaxing atmosphere, and premium sunset views over the water. But for Pensacola State College photography students, it also provides a unique opportunity to showcase their artistic talents.
Pensacola State College visual arts students won 56 awards at the AAF Pensacola 2025 American Advertising Awards Gala on Feb. 21 at the Court of De Luna.
On Wednesday, November 2 at 5:30 pm, The Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts at Pensacola State College is hosting an artist presentation by Lara Sophie Benjamin, the Great Gulfcoast Arts Festival Invited International Artist for 2022.

Nursing is a noble and honorable profession ─ but it’s not for everyone. Even nurses will tell you that.
Danny Nguyen started at Pensacola State College as a nursing student, but it just wasn’t a good fit. Instead, he enrolled in the College’s Visual Arts Program and has blossomed as a graphic design artist.
In fact, Nguyen won a Gold Award and two Silver Awards at the American Advertising Federation District 4 Awards competition held April 22 in Orlando. District 4 includes colleges and universities in Florida and the Caribbean.
Vogue magazine would be fortunate to have a cover as striking and visually compelling as the mock cover created by Pensacola State College graphic design student Aubrey Dean.
Dean’s three digital paintings that were then transformed into a mock cover and advertisements for Vogue won “Best in Show” at the 2022 PSC Art Student Honors Exhibition Award Ceremony.
The crumbs and remnants of Micah Cain’s work and toil are caked across his apron, and often, on his well-worn jeans and t-shirt.
Cain is Pensacola State College’s ceramics instructor, coming to the College in fall 2019.
The best pieces from Pensacola State College’s best art students are now on display at the Switzer Gallery in the Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts on the Pensacola campus.
The Art Student Honors Exhibition showcases 96 artworks in a variety of media, including ceramics, drawing, painting, digital design, photography and sculpture. The exhibition opened April 4 and runs through April 22.
The reception and prize ceremony for the exhibition is set for 5-7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14. The exhibition was open to all two-year visual arts students.
Hannah Clarke’s abstract photo “At Twilight” was named the winner of the Pensacola State College Sunset Photography Contest on Monday, March 7, during a short ceremony at Jaco’s Bayfront Bar & Grille.
Clarke was one of 12 PSC photography students who competed in the annual contest which ran through February. The students’ photographs were displayed in Jaco’s through the month and people were asked to vote for their favorite. Voting also occurred online.
The exhibition includes collage and assemblage work by Georgia artist Marcus Kenney. The meticulously detailed pieces often incorporate urban detritus collected by the artist with themes exploring personal iconography, current events, or simple whimsy.
