Moonlight Garden is a series shaped by imagination, fascination, and interpretation. Through the Mordançage process, the photographer created landscape imagery that reveals a world of beautiful yet supernatural views of nature, transcending the aesthetics of traditional landscape photography.

The title, Moonlight Garden, reflects the photographs’ unusual quality of light, making them appear as if they were captured at night under moonlight. Through the Mordançage process, unexpected hues of copper, tan, buff, burnt sienna, and other earth tones emerge within black-and-white silver gelatin prints. These colors echo the natural palette of the landscapes photographed.

Part technique, part chance, the veiling and shifting of darker tones give each print an otherworldly surface that alludes to the geologic forces of time, pressure, and heat that formed the granite, limestone, and sandstone in the landscapes. Just as wind, water, and ice have shaped the land over countless years, the veiling created through Mordançage becomes a visual response to those same geological processes.
