The generosity of so many PSC supporters allows us to award over $35,000+ in scholarships to our Visual Arts students each year. Pensacola State College students enrolled in a Visual Arts program may apply for any of the (300) scholarships offered at the college, however, we have an additional (11) endowed scholarships available only to Visual Arts students at Pensacola State College.
In addition to scholarships, the Pensacola State College Visual Arts Department awards numerous cash prizes and merchandise awards to student-winners in our Annual Student Art Awards Exhibition.

A two-year scholarship is awarded by each Academic Department or sponsor who conducts an Academic Excellence competition in their respective academic discipline, i.e. Visual Arts, Physical Sciences, Performing Arts, and Academic Programs. Recipients may be required to major in the academic discipline or topic in which they competed.
The Switzer and Reilly families established this endowment in 1998 in memory of Anna Lamar Switzer. Anna Ashley Lamar was born on September 11, 1900, in Valdosta, Georgia, and moved to Pensacola in 1903 where her father, a banker, soon founded what would become Lamar Outdoor Advertising. She married in 1924 and traveled extensively during her husband’s 45-year naval career. When they retired in Pensacola, Mrs. Switzer continued her close association with the Navy, became a community and political activist, and a local patron of the arts. Mrs. Switzer was the first woman named to the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation Board, was a life member of the Pensacola Historical Society, a past president of the Pensacola Art Association, and an honorary trustee of the Pensacola Museum of Art. She wrote The Lamar Heritage, published in 1972. Anna Switzer died March 27, 1998, and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery with her husband and sons.
Two renewable full-tuition awards (up to $1,500) are given annually to incoming freshmen for the Fall/Spring semesters. Students must demonstrate financial need and be enrolled full or part-time as an art major in one of the Visual Art Department’s degree programs (Art Studio, Graphic Design, Multimedia). Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. The student must be a United States citizen or resident alien. Student must be a graduate of an area high school (Escambia/Santa Rosa counties.) The portfolio of work should contain 10-15 examples of artwork, matted or appropriately presented (frames not required), as a sheet of 35mm slides or both.
The Anna Lamar Switzer Scholarship will cover tuition, fees, and/or books.
In life, Aubrey Mullings was surrounded by educators, nurses, and dedicated servicemen and women who instilled in him the importance of service above self. In his life, he enjoyed singing and the freedom to travel internationally or on his motorcycle. No matter where he went in life, adventure was sure to follow. His wife, Mary Mullings, recalls how much her husband loved to take photos wherever they went in the world. She remembered his love of photography beginning in college. After his passing, Mary established this scholarship in memory of Aubrey, in order to assist students who love photography just like Aubrey did.
The award amount is variable. Students must demonstrate financial need and be enrolled full-time or part-time in a Photography Program. Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Must be a United States citizen or resident alien. The scholarship will cover tuition, fees, books, and supplies required by the syllabus. The recipient should have a portfolio with 10-15 examples of photographs, matted or appropriately presented (frames not required), as a sheet of 35mm slides, or both.

There are no Pensacola State College employees who can boast a record that comes close to that of Bill Clover. In 1966, the self-described “hippie,” began his journey with Pensacola Junior College as an art teacher. Clover hit the ground running, and before long, he was working with over 10,000 students in numerous classes and fields, from ceramics to art history. Little did he know, he would end up staying with the College for 52 years, leaving behind a permanent legacy in the Pensacola art world through his passion for others and through his community volunteer service. When he wasn’t with his family or his students, Bill Clover volunteered at Manna Food Pantry. Over the course of a decade, he contributed more than 7,000 hours of service to the pantry, and in 2014, he received the U.S. President’s Volunteer Service. Though he is no longer with us, Bill Clover continues to help art students at the College and even has a pottery studio named in his honor, as he was the longest-serving faculty member in the school’s history.
Students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5. Students must be enrolled in a visual arts program of study. Students may be enrolled on a full-time or part-time basis.
The Bill Clover Endowed Memorial Scholarship may cover tuition, fees, books, and/or materials required by the syllabi.
This endowment was established by a formerly active exhibiting group of contemporary artists in Pensacola named “Art on the Tracks.” It was made in memory of an art student at Pensacola Junior College who also served as one of the founders of the group, named Carolyn D. Carter. Carolyn D. Carter lived in Pensacola for her entire life. She was a full-time artist who taught classes at the Pensacola Museum of Art. She was known for being kind, and she donated much of her time to working with Adult Children of Alcoholics when she wasn’t surrounded by art. After her very unexpected death in 1991, donations began flooding into Art on the Tracks. Members decided to collect the funds and create a scholarship to honor Carolyn and ensure that her contributions to the art world of Pensacola would never be forgotten.
Award amount is $500 per term. Recipients will be chosen by considering the following:

The Gulf Breeze Arts, Inc. Endowed Scholarship was established in June 2000. Gulf Breeze Arts, Inc. is a nonprofit that has been in the business of funding programs like art, band, drama, and JROTC for students who cannot afford them entirely on their own. They have been helping k-12 and college students since 1986. Every spring, they sponsor the Gulf Breeze Celebrates the Arts Festival, where local artists, theatre groups, food and drink vendors, and families looking to have fun mingle and enjoy the creativity in the open air. Each year, proceeds help students in the area. Typically, the annual event yields success, and in 2023, this festival raised $15,800.
The minimum award amount is $200 and up to $1,000 per semester. Students must demonstrate financial need and be enrolled full-time or part-time. Must be in good academic standing and be a U.S. citizen. Preference is given to students majoring in Visual Arts.
The Gulf Breeze Arts, Inc. Endowed Scholarship will cover tuition, registration fees, and/or books.
Mr. Harvey Roundquist taught painting, drawing, and design at PJC from 1963-1993. He was a true artist in everything that he did, whether it be his detailed home renovations, or his active roles in theatre, band, and vocal performance. During a sabbatical at PSC, Mr. Roundquist toured the world and learned about art from cultures throughout Europe and South America, taking all that he learned back to PJC. Over his career, he donated over 40 pieces of his work to the College. His friend and co-worker, Bill Clover, recalled that even towards the end of his life, Mr. Roundquist maintained the same vigor for art, art history, and teaching that he had always had. This scholarship was created in 2005 after Harvey’s death but his friends, family, and colleagues.
The award amount is variable. Students must demonstrate financial need and be enrolled full-time or part-time majoring in Visual Arts. Students must be in good academic standing. Students must be a United States citizen.
Harvey Rundquist Memorial Endowed Scholarship will cover tuition and/or books.
This scholarship was established in 1994 by Eleanore Turner in honor of her mother, Julie Krause. Ms. Krause moved from Connecticut to Ft. Meyers, before she eventually moved back up north. For most of her life, she was a single mother to three children. At the beginning of her time in Florida, Julie originally worked as an LPN. As much as she loved the work itself, she wasn’t happy with the hours and the pay, and she longed to travel. Ms. Krause took a huge leap of faith and decided to join a road crew. After that, she never wanted to go back. Julie lived life to the fullest and reached the age of 97. After her death, Eleanore opted to donate a large portion of Julie’s estate to Pensacola Junior College. The funds were used to create an endowment to help students in the visual arts department in honor of Julie’s fervor for artistic expression.
Minimum $400 awarded fall and spring terms. Recipient must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a part-time or full-time student majoring in visual or performing arts.
The Julie Krause Endowed Scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, books, and supplies.
The award amount is variable. Students must demonstrate financial need and be enrolled in the Visual Arts program. The student must be a United States citizen or resident alien. Applicants who are first-generation students will be given first consideration.
The M.P. Brown Endowed Scholarship in Photography will cover tuition, fees, books, and/or materials required by the photography course syllabus.
Mark C. Price was a Florida native. He attended high school at Sarasota High School and Pensacola Junior College before he completed his Master of Fine Arts. Afterward, Mr. Price moved to Pensacola and began teaching ceramics as an adjunct professor at Pensacola Junior College in the art department. In his free time, Mr. Price would volunteer at the Belmont Arts Center, where he would host master classes in pottery, passing his skills to people of all skill levels. Mark thoroughly enjoyed surrounding himself with creative people and he thrived when he was around others whom he could inspire and take inspiration from. His mother, Cheryl, started this scholarship in honor of her son’s contributions to the local art world three years after his passing in 2008 so that her son could continue to foster creativity in the lives of students.
Up to $250 per semester. Students must demonstrate financial need and be enrolled part-time or full-time in an art-related program. Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien.
Mark Price Memorial Endowed Scholarship will cover tuition, fees, books, and/or supplies as required by the course syllabus.
Randy Grogan Kidd was a Florida native with a family that always valued education. Randy’s father, Rex, spent his life as an educator at colleges in Southern Florida after earning his Doctor of Education from the University of Florida. Randy followed in his father’s footsteps when he earned a Master of Industrial Arts from Clemson University and worked as a graduate student at Jupiter Community School and Clemson University. He taught Graphic Arts at Pensacola State from 1980 until 1983, and he participated in a PJC arts exhibit featuring faculty works of art. Randy’s talent won Best in Show for Graphics and Drawing at the Pensacola Interstate Fair in 1981. Randy was the educational liaison with Printing Industries of Florida, and he served on a state committee to standardize the Florida education printing curriculum. Unfortunately, Randy’s life was cut tragically short while he was on his way to a surprise party for his father’s 79th birthday and was caught in a deadly robbery. In honor of Randy’s passion for students, and to carry on his legacy as an educator, Randy’s family worked with the Visual Arts Department Director and community donations to establish this endowment the same year.
$250 scholarship commemorates a deceased art faculty member. The recipient should be an art major, holding a minimum 2.5 GPA.

Samuel M. Marshall, Jr. grew up in Alexandria, Louisiana, before he attended Texas A&M to become an architect in 1950. During World War II, he served with the Coast Guard aboard an icebreaker and then returned to military service with the Army Corps of Engineers after schooling. While away in Germany, Sam Marshall married Philomena K. Wengbauer, and they settled in Pensacola. Here, Sam opened his architectural practice, where he was admired for his high standards and unique, quality work. If you’d like to see Sam’s work for yourself, you can visit the Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts at Pensacola State College. Sam also designed St. John’s Catholic Church and the University of West Florida Computer Science Facility. He was also active with the Cantonment Rotary Club, the Contractor Competency Board, and the American Institute of Architects, to name a few. Family and friends of Sam established this scholarship in 2007, to honor Sam’s excellence in providing Pensacola with spaces that improved the community. We are forever grateful.
