Garcia was a conceptual artist deeply involved with civic life in Miami whose artwork often involved the whole community. Garcia studied mathematics at the University of Georgia in Athens and drawing and painting at Georgia State University in Atlanta. He was an art instructor at Miami-Dade Community College and the International Fine Arts College in Miami.

SELF PORTRAIT IN BLACK WRAPPING is one of Juan Gonzalez’s earlier paintings. The painting was part of Gonzalez’s Master of Fine Art exhibition at the University of Miami. It has also been exhibited at the Lowe Art Museum and the Metropolitan Museum and Art Center in Miami, FL.

HASTINGS TELLS HIS STORY, is one of several courtroom drawings depicted during the trail of Judge Alcee Hastings. The drawing became part of a series exhibited at the Art and Culture Center in 1983 in an exhibition entitled, Moving Pictures: The Trial of Judge Alcee Hastings.

Harry Kline was a model-maker of boats, draftsman and sculptor. He is best known as the author of The Yachtsman’s Guide to the Bahamas for many years. These technical maritime books also contained his drawings and designs. His last sculpture exhibition was at the Judith Proctor Gallery in Seaside, Florida in the late 90’s or early 00’s.

Michael Smith is a local award winning photographer here in Florida. Although Smith retired as a Psychologist and Statistician in 2005 he has had a lifelong interest in the art and science of photography. For almost fifty years he used traditional photographic chemical processing methods and light-sensitive film, slide, and print media to create and produce his photographic art.

Born in Camaguey, Cuba, Sanchez began his artistic career in 1944 at the Art Students League in New York City. His earlier works played on his fascination of light and shadow on colored forms. These features where very prominent in his early works of the 1950s which consisted of stylized and figurative themes, such as portraits, views of New York and tropical landscapes.

Audes Saul was born in Bombardopolis, Haiti, in 1949 within a few miles of the point where Columbus first arrived in the new world in 1492. Orphaned at the age of 16, he migrated to Port-au-Prince in 1967.

Saunders’ drawings are large-format drawings, not photographs. Saunders’ states, “I don’t use photographic equipment or processes in their creation; I use photographs as reference only. I draw them by hand on archival paper using powdered graphite suspended between layers of acrylic spray.”

For more than 40 years, proceeds from sales of Paolo Soleri’s wind-bells have provided funds for construction to test his theoretical work. Ceramic and bronze bells are still produced and sold at Arcosanti and Cosanti in Arizona.

It is the nature of these shapes to be quite flexible and unstable until the closing piece is put into place. Then the circuit of pressures and tensions is closed and they become rigid and stable by virtue of shape rather than material strength or solidity. Thus these pieces embody the equilibrium of physical forces as well as visual ones.”

The cultured Baule and talented Guro-world famous African Art with fine poetic element. Sculpture provides gods & ancestors w/ as fine and well-formed abode as possible. Guro style more indigenous and elegant than Baule. Characteristic chevron-shaped hairline.

William Ward, was Professor of Art at the University of Miami in Coral Gables for many years. His specialty was large welded sculpture although he loved to draw. He had many large sculpture commissions in Miami and also at Darton College in Albany, Georgia. He designed and made the Official Mace of the University of Miami.

Emily Wilson was raised in Huntsville, Alabama. In 1982 she received a BFA degree with a focus in painting from the Memphis College of Art, Memphis, TN. During her time there she developed an interest in wood and metal media. A whimsical narrative style already present in her early development of sculpture was greatly influenced by living in the New Orleans area during the latter half of the 1980’s.
